Without efficient crop protection, there is no doubt that we would not have sufficient food or natural fibre. Indeed, in the developing countries of the world there is still an enormous need for increased crop protection. In the case of insect-pest control, considerable efforts must be made to ensure that there is no danger to man since the biochemical targets in insects can be closely related to our own. This requirement has meant that there has been, and indeed still is, a major research effort on insect control. This volume contains a collection of the proceedings given at the Second International Symposium organized by the Fine Chemical and Medicinals Group of the Industrial Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Pesticides Group of the Society of Chemical Industry.
